Warming room
The Warming Room, which linked to the cloister and the common room, was one of the only heated rooms along with the kitchen and infirmary. The life of monks was harsh in winter in the valley of Fontenay, which regularly experiences temperatures below-20 °C.
One can see from the cloister’s courtyard the two heads of fireplace. Dated from the twelfth century they are of an elaborate design.
