Entrance lodge
The Entrance Lodge, where visitors now wait for the start of the guided tour, was a key place in the abbey : it marked the boundary between its closed and protected space and the outside world. The porter was responsible for welcoming those who came to the entrance of the monastery : novices, pilgrims, travelers, merchants, but also poor and infirm who asked for alms.
